History Theme Classroom Door

History Theme Classroom Door

I teach secondary social studies: World Geography and World History in a block schedule and in the beginning of every year I am thinking how do I want to decorate my classroom door. I realized early on it takes a lot of work and time to brain storm and get all the materials to finally get the look you want.

So I decided that I would only decorate the door at the beginning of the school year. I assign each of my six classes a month and they work as a class together to design what or how the classroom door would look like; incorporating history in some way.

Below I’m sharing 10 ways you can use decorate your classroom door and hopefully be inspired to do the same.

  1. Fall Theme
Each leaf started on top of a branch with a different name of an empire or dynasty. As we cover the curriculum I remove the leaf of topic and placed as if it was falling.

2. Explorer

A Explorer using a astrolabe to guide their way. (The astrolabe is not complete but students felt it would be to confusing to have a circle next to the head of the explorer.)

3. Blast off

Each star represents a different topic, event or individual we would be covering throughout the year. Ex: Zheng He and the Tang Dynasty.

4. Renaissance

Different images that represent the Renaissance Era.

5. Early Civilizations

Images include: Neolithic cave painting, Pyramids & Hieroglyphics, Great Wall, Mayan pyramid and the Roman Colosseum.

6. Russian Onion Domes

Russia is cold throughout the year. The quote represents creating buildings despite the weather.

7. World War I & II Theme

Red Plane represents: the Red Baron and Germany. The flags represent of the countries involved in the wars.

8. Egyptians

The water represents the Nile River.

9. Roman

Pun for Roaming through History.

10. Year of the Pig- 2019

Students were learning about Chinese dynasties and they wanted to add a dragon and a pig (peppa pig).
